Green Amethyst Earrings with Biwa Pearls

Green amethyst is a favourite gemstone of mine, especially when paired with gold. This stone is also known as prasiolite, and it is a pale, mint green shade. To bring out the colour in these stones, I have added deeper green biwa pearls. These pearls have an imperfect, organic shape that plays off the perfect faceting of the stones. I wrapped them securely with gold-filled wire, and then attached them to the trio of gemstones. Gold vermeil earwires with berry detail complete the look.

Earrings are approx. 2 3/4" (6.9cm) long from the top of the earwire to the bottom of the pearls.

What is Gold-Filled?

Gold-filled is an economical alternative to solid gold. By law, it has 1/20th by weight layer of 14 karat gold permanently bonded over a core of base metal. It is tarnish-resistant, safe for sensitive skin and unlike gold plate, it will not wear off. It is a great way to enjoy affordable gold jewellery.
